Plus, the proof of vaccination or negative covid test will only be required when entering the country by air or sea, visit to health facilities, great events and bars and night clubs. Which means that hotel stays and restaurants are now exempted from this. All establishments will also be back to their full capacity and timetables.

Can I Travel to Portugal?

Portugal is looking forward to welcoming visitors from all over the world! Our people are known for its hospitality and you will feel welcome and at home around the country. You can visit Portugal if you are coming from the European Union, from a country in Schengen Area, Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, China, South Korea, United States of America, Japan, Jordan, New Zealand, Qatar, Republic of Moldova, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Taiwan, Ukraine, United Kingdom and special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao.

What do I need if visiting Portugal Mainland?

Visitors must have a negative Covid-19 test or the EU Covid Digital Certificate, along with proof of vaccination. This test can be a Rapid Antigen test (TRAg), approved by the European Union Health Committee performed within 48 hours of boarding or the RT-PCR, carried out at 72h prior to the departure. All passengers need to fill a Passenger Locator Card (individual) before departure to Portugal or on board.

And what about Madeira?

Passengers arriving at the island must provide proof of vaccination (different official certificates accepted) or recovery of the disease. Alternatively, visitors can also present a negative COVID-19 test taken 72 hours prior to departure. This test can also be valid to present at check in on your first hotel, so we suggest doing the test closer to your departure day so that you can use it still in Madeira (check the timings at the laboratory). To speed the process on arrival, the Regional Government of Madeira suggests travelers complete a health questionnaire between 48 and 12 hours prior to disembarking. The Regional government offers each visitor a free PCR test, which can either be taken upon your arrival at the airport or prior to your departure and return home. More information here: http://www.visitmadeira.pt/en-gb/useful-info/corona-virus-(covid-19)/information-to-visitors-(covid-19).

And the Azores?

People aged 12 or older visiting the Azores must present either the EU Digital Covid 19 certificate or a negative RT- PCR test carried out 72h prior to the departure or proof of recovery from the disease. This test can also be valid to present at check in on your first hotel, so we suggest doing the test closer to your departure day so that you can use it still in the Azores (check the timings at the laboratory). All tests made for travels to the Azores at a network of laboratories with agreement with the Regional Government of the Azores will be paid the Regional Government. After scheduling your test, you should appear at the laboratory at the time and date established and follow the information that was given to you.Travelers who wish to remain in the Azores for more than seven days, will be required to test again on the 6th day.

To speed the process on arrival, the Regional Government of the Azores suggests travelers complete a health questionnaire at least 72 hours before disembarking.

Can I Visit Spain?

Yes, the land borders between Portugal and Spain are open and circulation is permitted freely.

What do I need when returning home?

If you are a holder of an EU Covid Digital Certificate you can fast track this at the airport when returning. (Check for additional official restrictions from your country). Tourists returning to the United States, ages two years and older, must provide a negative COVID-19 viral test taken within three calendar days of travel.

What If I am arriving from Portugal and departing from Spain?

If you are a holder of an EU Covid Digital Certificate you can fast track this at the airport when arriving and departing. US tourists are welcome to Portugal as long as they present a negative Covid-19 test, either RT-PCR taken 72h prior to your flight or a rapid antigen test taken 48h prior, and they can departure Spain and enter the US if they have a negative Covid-19 test.

And the other way round?

Before entering Spain, all travelers must fill out a Health Control Form available here: https://www.spth.gob.es/. All US and UK citizens on leisure travel are required to present proof of vaccination to enter Spain. As the land borders between Portugal and Spain are open, you will only need to take your test prior to departing from Portugal back home. Should you fly to Portugal from Spain, you will need to take at least a rapid antigen test (TRAg) 48h prior to your flight to enter the country.
