Update – 13th of September

Citizens of United States of America and United Kingdom must now present proof of vaccination to travel to Spain on leisure travel. Passengers coming from the UK can, alternatively, present a negative Covid-19 test.

Can I Travel to Spain?

Yes. Spain is open to visitors from the EU, Schengen Area, Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei, Canada, China, Japan, Jordan New Zealand, Qatar, Republic of Moldova, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Ukraine, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, regardless of vaccination and excluding tests or quarantine. The list is updated by the Ministry of Health every 15 days.

Spain is also open to vaccinated travelers worldwide – vaccination completed 14 days prior to the arrival in Spain -, with exception of those coming from high-risk areas.

What do I need if visiting Spain?

Before entering Spain, all travelers must fill out a Health Control Form available here: https://www.spth.gob.es/.

Depending on the epidemiologic situation of the country you are arriving from (check the map here) you may be requested to present a proof of vaccination with one of the European Medicines Agency-approved vaccines or the WHO approved vaccines (in Spanish, English, French or German) or a negative test (either RT-PCR taken 72h prior or rapid antigen, approved by the European Union Health Committee taken 48h prior).

Citizens of United States of America and United Kingdom must present proof of vaccination to travel to Spain on leisure travel. Passengers coming from the UK can also, alternatively, present a negative Covid-19 test.

The EU Digital Covid Certificate is also accepted, as well as a certificate of recovery. This last certificate, provided that more than 11 days have passed since the first positive NAAT test was performed, must state the date of the first positive test, and indicate that the passenger has passed the disease and is not infectious-contagious at the present time, and the country where the certificate was issued. It must be written in Spanish, English, French or German.

Upon your arrival in Spain, you may be subject to health control at the airport and after the assessment carried out by the health authority (including documentary control) you may be subjected to a diagnostic test for COVID-19.

What if I am travelling with children?

Minor children can enter Spain if they are traveling with their parents and must fill the standard Health Control Form. All children 12 years of age or older will need to meet the requirements as stated on “What do I need if visiting Spain?”.

What about cruise travel?

There is a different health form, specifically for international cruise travelers available here: https://spthm.puertos.es/.

Can I cross the land border into Portugal?

Yes, the land borders between Spain and Portugal are open and circulation is permitted freely.

Can I cross the land border into France?

Yes, the land borders between Spain and France are open and circulation is permitted freely.

Can I travel to Morocco?

At this point, the sea and land border between Spain and Morocco is closed until further decision. Flights between Spain and Morocco are restricted. If you are travelling from Morocco, you must present your vaccination certificate and complete a Health Control From.

What should I do if I have Covid Symptoms?

If during your stay in Spain you develop symptoms of acute respiratory infection (fever, cough or difficulty in breathing) or other symptoms compatible with COVID-19 such as reduced sense of smell and taste, chills, sore throat, muscle aches, headache, general weakness, diarrhea or vomiting, you must commit to:

1) Self-isolating: Preferably in a room for individual use, which is well ventilated and with an individual bathroom. If this is not possible, the safety distance of 1.5 metres should be guaranteed and a surgical mask should be worn when in contact with other people living with the patient. Be very careful with hygiene.
2) Contact the competent health authorities of the Autonomous Communities by telephone.
3) For agressive shortness of breath or chest pain, as well as other health matters, call 112.

Where can I take a Covid PCR Test in Spain should I need it?

Unilabs has several laboratories in Madrid and Barcelona. You can check the available labs in Madrid and Barcelona here https://testcovid-unilabs.es/centros/ and use the landline to book your test at one of the facilities (+34 915 504 399). Even though it is the standard procedure to answer in Spanish, all clinics are available to answer in English and help you with your test.

Is there any travel insurance that covers expenses related to covid-19?

There is a specific travel insurance for travelers staying in the Andalusia region of Spain that covers medical, surgical and hospitalization costs, extended stay at a hotel due to quarantine, as well as transportation and repatriation expenses. You can find more information on it here: https://www.andalucia.org/en/travel-assistance-insurance
